Suspect, mobile phone store employee hurt in attempted robbery


Two people were shot Tuesday afternoon during an attempted armed robbery at a store in a northeast Baltimore shopping center.City police said two people were shot around 1:39 pm Tuesday at the Metro PCS Store in the 5400 block of Sinclair Lane.The 11 News I-Team has learned the two people shot include the suspect and an employee of the mobile phone store where the shooting occurred. Police said a preliminary investigation reveals a customer walked into the store around 1:25 pm seeking customer service. At that time, store employees told the customer they would not be able to assist him. Police said the customer then walked out of the store and returned a short time later with a handgun and announced a robbery. At some point, one of the store employees began to wrestle the suspect for the gun when it fired, striking another store employee in the leg. The handgun fell to the floor, at which time, the victim who was shot in the leg picked up the handgun and shot the suspect in the abdomen. Police were then called. An employee who spoke with 11 News who was not injured said the suspect appeared to be a routine customer looking at a tablet in the store when he took out the gun.”(There was) only one gun, never anything more than that,” said Carlos, a store employee. When asked about his colleague who was injured in the shooting, Carlos told 11 News, “Fortunately, we were told he is going to be OK. It was a flesh wound to his leg , but other than that, he is actually OK.”Police said both the victim and the suspect suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were taken to hospitals. Police said the suspect will be charged with attempted armed robbery, reckless endangerment and various handgun violations upon being discharged from the hospital. Investigators said they have not had any similar trouble in this shopping center.
